Application for Obesity Society Membership

Applications for membership of the Obesity Society must include a brief CV, including the following information:

• Date of birth
• List of tertiary qualifications
• Current appointment / position / role
• Indication of membership to other professional societies
• Indication of involvement in other businesses / boards / directorships
• Statement of your interests in the field of overweight and obesity (max. 250 words).
  
  

Classes of Membership:

Full Member - $110.00 (inc. GST)
This class of membership is open to medical graduates, scientists and health care professionals from Australia and New Zealand with an interest in the field of obesity and overweight.  It is also open to overseas colleagues who wish to join the Society.  Regular members may vote for Council officers and receive the full benefits of membership.

Student* - $55.00 (inc. GST)
This class of membership is open to individuals enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.  Student members are entitled to all benefits of membership, with the exception that Student members are not entitled to nominate for Council.

Honorary Life Member – complimentary membership fee
This class of membership can only be granted by Council and is reserved for individuals who have made an outstanding contribution in the field of obesity and who have been members of the Obesity Society for more than 10 years.

Corporate Member**

A.  Commercial $500.00 (inc. GST)
This class of membership is open to sponsors of the Obesity Society.  Each corporate membership may comprise of up to 5 persons nominated by the particular sponsor and approved by the Council.  The persons listed in a corporate membership are entitled to full benefits of the Obesity Society membership, with the exception that such a member may not vote for Council officers or be nominated for Council.

B.  Not for Profit $160.00 (inc. GST)
This class of membership is open to any not-for-profit organisation with an interest in the overweight and obesity.  Each not-for-profit corporate membership entitles that organisation to receive all services available to ordinary members but they have no voting rights.  They may nominate one person to attend meetings at the reduced Obesity Society member’s rates.

* If applying for Student membership, you must include a signed statement from your supervisor stating your current student/postdoctoral status.
** Application for corporate membership must be made on the letterhead of the organisation and should include the following information:

• Contact name and address for the organisation
• Nature of the business/organisation
• Statement of interest in joining the Obesity Society as a corporate member.
