The Obesity Society

2007 Annual Scientific Meeting

The Obesity Society held their 15th Annual Scientific Meeting in Canberra on the 31st August to the 2nd September 2007. A variety of workshops and symposia were held on the Friday. The conference was opened by Nicola Roxon (Member of Parliament) on the 1st September. Overall the conference was well received by the conference delegates.

The Obesity Society would especially like to extend their appreciation to the three plenary speakers: Dr Tim Gill from the University of Sydney; Professor Mike Rayner from Oxford University; and Dr Greg Steinberg from the University of Melbourne. The Obesity Society would like to thank all invited speakers, participants and sponsors for making this conference a resounding success.

Four major awards were presented at the conference. The Young Investigator Award for 2007 was presented to Dr Leonie Heilbronn from the Garvan Institute. The Obesity Society Media Award was presented to Julie Robotham from the Sydney Morning Herald. Two student awards were presented to Jenny Deh Yi Chow (from Prince Henry’s Insititute) for the Best Oral Presentation and to Stephanie Ipavec Levasseur (from the Diamantina Institute) for the Best Poster Presentation.
